MINOR IRRIGATION

Minor irrigation flow is classified as irrigation projects having ayacut from 40Hact(100Acre). to  2000Hact. (5000Acre) and the Minor Irrigation Division ,Khariar provides a valuable share of flow irrigation in the Nuapada District which has been created newly with effect from 1.4.1993.

            Minor Irrigation Division Khariar covers the total area of Nuapada District, consisting 5(Five) Nos Blocks that is Sinapalli, Khariar, Komna, Boden, Nuapada  Block with Nuapada & Khariar Assembly constituency  for smooth Administration. Minor Irrigation Division, Khariar also divided into 3Nos of M.I. Sub-Division with Head quarters located at Khariar, Sinapalli and Nuapada for smooth technical supervision.

PANI PANCHAYATS           

            Formation of Pani Panchayat is being taken up in Medium, Minor Irrigation Projects and at L.I.Points of the District.  There are 3 Medium Irrigation Projects as Upper Jonk, Sunder and Saipala,  27 M.I.Projects, and 130 L.I. Points.  In the District total number of 202 Pani Panchayats have been formed, out of which 189 Pani Panchayats have been registered and 176 Pani Panchayayats have taken over the canal system.  Out of the total number of  20355 beneficiaries, 13412 beneficiaries have been enrolled as on 25.07.2006 and Rs. 122917.00  have been deposited with different banks.

In Upper Jonk, 20 Pani Panchayats have been formed with 6654 beneficiaries and the Pani Panchayats have taken over the minors and sub-minors.  All the 20 nos. of Pani Panchayats have enrolled more than 75% members.  1^st year grant-in-aid has been released for Rs. 9.51 lakh & 2^nd year grant in aid amounting to Rs. 7,39,229/- for the year 2004-05 has been released to these Pani Panchayats.  Apex Committee of these Pani Panchayats have been formed.   

In Sunder and Saipala Irrigation Projects, total no. of beneficiaries are 3301and 451respectively.  Apex Committees of Pani Panchayat of Sundar  and Saipala Irrigation Projects have been formed and the canal distribution systems have been handed over to the Pani Panchayats. The apex building has been constructed by remodeling the existing departmental building and handed over to the pani Panchcyat Apex Committee. 

 87 nos. of Pani Panchayats have been formed under OLIC and they have taken over the canal system.  During the last year 44 defunct L.I. Points were restored by allotting Rs. 2.45 lakh to the Pani Panchayats.  Besides, under Minor Irrigation Projects 28 nos. of Pani Panchayats have been formed and registered, all the 26 nos. of Pani Panchayats have been registered and taken over the canal system.  No grant-in-aid has been provided to 4 nos. of Pani Panchayats for the year 2005-06 amounting to Rs. 1,03,450/-.

BIJU KRUSHAK VIKAS YOJANA (B.K.V.Y)

                          84 projects at a cost of Rs.5.11 crore have been sanctioned for Nuapada district that will provide additional 1624 hectares of irrigation. Out of 84 projects, 28 projects are executed by OAIC, Nuapada and 56 projects by the OLIC.  28 projects have been completed by OAIC.  OLIC have completed 49 nos. of projects. For 07 nos. projects alternative proposals had been submitted to Govt. by the OLIC for substitution. Now Government have sanctioned the alternative 7 nos of Lift Irrigation Projects which have been received during 2005-06 i.e. on 25.03.2006. The works are in progress. OAIC has utilized Rs. 123.00 lakh and submitted U.Cs.  Similarly, OLIC has utilized Rs 304.92 lakhs and submitted the U.Cs. under BKVY 71 nos of Panipanchayats have been formed.
