Diary activity is an important sources of supplimentay income for small/marginal farmers and agricultural labourers. Nupada district with vast stretch of land and growth of infrastructure has good potential for diary development. Khariar breed cattle is the native of Nuapda. It is dual purpose small sized breed suitable both for milk and drought purpose. Per capita milk availability in the district 21 gms as against 94 gms in the state. Present level of milk production is around 10 MT where as the requirement is 132 MT.
Poultry meat and egg are important source of quality protein, minerals and vitamins to balance diet. Poultry manure has high fertilizer value and can be used for increasing soil fertility and crop yield. The agro climatic condition of the district is suitable for the sheep rearing, goatry and pig rearing.

More of local and indigenous breeds of cattle are prevalent in the district attributing to low performance. The same is in case of Buffalo, sheep and goat and pigs as well as birds. With the rich diversity of agro climatic conditions and forest area, activities need to be strategically planned for development of dairy and goatery as well as for poultry birds. Things can be much help like breed up gradation along with management and care. The people need to be made aware and trained in this respect for better livelihood selection and practice.

Per capita availability of milk is satisfactory in the district but not in case of egg and meat that needs more attention. Something can be thought about the quality of the meat and milk produced, as the practices are almost organic and forest based for better price with branding these animals and animal products.

Strategies:
- Pasture land can be development may be encouraged by the land less people to create adequate grazing land
- Irrigation potential can be used to develop fodder in the west land and pasture land to minimize the cost of production.
- Supply of “Banaraja” chicks for the economic up liftment & to provide animal protein to poor families.
- Genetic upgradtion of the local breed through artificial insemination and natural service (supply of good quality bulls & bucks) is to be taken up to enhance the milk and meat production
- Capacity of the community for better management practices need to be enhanced by the training and exposure visit.
